Background Information

Adiponectin is a hormone secreted by adipocytes that acts as an antidiabetic and anti-atherogenic adipokine. Two receptors for adiponectin have been identified: adiponectin receptor 1 (AdipoR1) and adiponectin receptor 2 (AdipoR2). They are seven-transmembrane domain receptors and mediate increased AMPK, MAPK and PPARA ligand activity in response to adiponectin. AdipoR1 is found in many tissues, being particularly abundant in skeletal muscle, whereas AdipoR2 is predominantly expressed in the liver (PMID: 24417942). AdipoR1 has a high affinity for globular adiponectin and a very low affinity for full-length adiponectin. AdipoR2 has an intermediate affinity for both forms. The human ADIPOR1 gene maps to chromosome 1q32.1, and encodes a 375-amino acid protein with a molecular weight of 43 kDa. This antibody was raised against 1-72aa of human AdipoR1.
