Every protein tells a story

Unveiling the story of proteins—One epitope at a time

Every protein has a story to tell, and each epitope is a chapter in that story. At Proteintech, we believe that understanding the intricate details of proteins leads to groundbreaking discoveries. This philosophy has led to new innovations on our website, such as our 3D epitope viewer that allows researchers to select antibodies based on the exact epitopes they identify.

Here’s why every unique epitope matters:

1. Molecular Identity: Epitopes define the unique fingerprint of a protein, allowing researchers to identify and characterize specific targets with precision.  Knowing more about the epitope your antibody identifies empowers you to zero in on the answers to your scientific questions.

2. Function & Interaction: Each epitope plays a role in how a protein interacts with other molecules, influencing cellular pathways and biological functions.  It is often these protein interactions and biological functions that scientists wish to study with antibodies.

3. Disease Insights: Aberrant or mutated epitopes can serve as biomarkers, helping to detect diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and autoimmune conditions.  Some disease-related epitopes may also have up or down regulated post-translational modifications that can be studied with highly specific antibodies.

4. Improving Experimental Design: Understanding your protein and epitopes can assist in designing research experiments that are accurate and reproducible.  A few examples where different epitopes can make or break an experiment include the study of cleaved or modified proteins, studying intracellular vs extracellular domains of a transmembrane protein, blocking or neutralization assays, and Co-IP of protein complexes.

5. Therapeutic Potential: Many life-saving therapies, including monoclonal antibodies and vaccines, are designed to target specific epitopes for maximum efficacy.  One example of this is tocilizumab (Actemra) which is used in the treatment of cytokine storm by targeting IL-6, an inflammatory cytokine.

6. Fueling Drug Discovery: By targeting specific epitopes, researchers can design novel small molecules, biologics, and antibody-based therapies that precisely modulate protein function, leading to the development of next-generation treatments for a wide range of diseases.

7. Antibody Specificity & Validation: High-quality antibodies depend on well-characterized epitopes, ensuring reproducibility and reliability in research.  Proteintech is proud to be at the forefront of sharing this epitope information with researchers to accelerate their research.

8. Unlocking New Discoveries: Each epitope uncovered adds another chapter to the story of life sciences, leading to innovations in diagnostics, therapeutics, and beyond.

At Proteintech, we empower researchers by providing the tools to read, understand, and write the next chapter of protein discovery. What will your next breakthrough reveal?
