Background Information

Cadherins are a family of transmembrane glycoproteins that mediate calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion and play an important role in tissue morphogenesis and the maintenance of normal tissue architecture (PMID: 23885883). The classic cadherin family members include E-, N-, P-, R-, and B-cadherins. The classic cadherins have ectodomains composed of five extracellular cadherin (EC) repeats, a single transmembrane region, and a cytoplasmic domain. Structural characterization indicated that the known cadherins are glycoproteins ranging in their apparent molecular weights between 120 and 140 kDa (PMID: 2077036). This polyclonal antibody is raised against a synthetic peptide corresponding to a conserved region of human E-Cadherin.
