Background Information
PAM(Peptidyl-glycine alpha-amidating monooxygenase) is a multifunctional protein containing 2 enzymes,PHM and PAL. The PAM protein containing the peptide encoded by exon A (Type B mRNA) is cleaved to form 41-and 43-kDa proteins, and the 75kDa PAM proteins is determined by lacking antigenic exon B(TypeA)(PMID:1740449).The substrate specificity of PAM is broad, and production of all a-amidated peptides may be dependent upon proteins encoded by the single copy PAM gene(PMID:8436961).It has 6 isoforms produced by alternative splicing.
