Background Information

NRAP (Nebulin-related-anchoring protein) is a striated muscle-specific protein that is concentrated at intercalated disks in cardiac muscle and at myotendinous junctions in skeletal muscle. NRAP is a 197 kDa multidomain scaffolding protein from nebulin family with many interation partners such as α-actinin, actin, vinculin and filamin (PMID:21276443). During cardiomyocyte development in the foetal heart, NRAP is involved in myofibrillar assembly and links terminal actin filaments to membrane complexes in the adult heart. Several studies observed that NRAP mutation would contributed to the dilated cardiomyopathy which is a highly heterogeneous disease with almost 100 candidates genes to date (PMID:28611399).
