Background Information
FOXE1 is a thyroid-specific forkhead transcription factor essential for thyroid gland development, as well as for the maintenance of the thyroid differentiated state in adults. Mutations in FOXE1 are associated with congenital hypothyroidism and cleft palate with thyroid dysgenesis (PMID: 20453517, PMID: 25381600). FOXE1 is expressed in the developing thyroid and the anterior pituitary gland.
