Background Information
EPB41L5, a member of the NBL4 subgroup of the band 4.1 superfamily, contains a FERM domain and plays an important role in regulating the connection between plasma membrane proteins and the cytoskeleton underneath the plasma membrane (PMID: 30082297). EPB41L5 is a mesenchymal-specific protein induced during EMT (epithelial-mesenchymal transition) that promotes the disruption of cell-cell adhesion kinetics (PMID: 34784520). EPB41L5 exists as four alternatively spliced isoforms encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 2q14.2.
