Background Information
C1GALT1 (Glycoprotein-N-acetylgalactosamine 3-beta-galactosyltransferase 1), also known as B3Gal-T8, catalyzes the transfer of galactose (Gal) from UDP-Gal to N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) O-linked esters of threonine and serine residues of target proteins, including IgA1, to form the T antigen (PMID: 28209808). C1GalT1 is overexpressed in many common cancers includingcolon, breast, gastric, lung, head and neck, pancreatic, esophageal, prostate, and hepatocellular cancer (PMID: 34944925). C1GALT1 protein contains 363 amino acids and is a typeII transmembrane protein. Rate C1GalT1 is an 84/86KDa disulfide-bonded homodimer, but its active form is believed to be a 42/43 KDa monomeric protein (PMID: 34149900).
