Position Summary:

The Director of Accounting will report to the Chief Financial Officer and will be responsible for the development and day-to-day leadership of the accounting and finance functions. You will be working from the Chicago office, with occasional requirements to travel to other global Company locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead core finance function activities (A/P, A/R, cash management, GL, tax) on a day-to-day basis;
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and operational results (including KPIs) and present to Executive Leadership Team;
  • Prepare periodic materials for presentation to audit & risk committee and Board of Directors;
  • Develop and implement new accounting and financial reporting standards as necessary;
  • Prepare and file quarterly, annual and periodic SEC reports;
  • Liaison with external counsel on SEC reporting matters and filings;
  • Lead preparation for periodic results presentations, investor presentations, and other investor communications;
  • Manage outsourced service providers for sales tax ;
  • Lead interactions with statutory auditors (KPMG);
  • Lead interactions with tax advisors (RSM);
  • Co-lead (with CFO) annual budgeting and business-planning exercise;
  • Lead any other functions and activities that may be required for professional compliance with reporting and filing requirements, investor relations, and internal finance functions to a public-company standard;
  • Lead the Sarbanes Oxley compliance efforts and manage implementation.

Initial Capacity Building (first 6-9 months)

  • Co-lead with CFO and Audit Committee Chair to develop an initial assessment of current finance function relative to public-company requirements
  • Systems and controls and general accounting policies (including segregation of responsibilities)
  • Core finance functions (A/R, A/P, Treasury, Tax)
  • Monthly and quarterly closing procedures
  • SEC reporting requirements
  • Financial forecasting and budgeting
  • Corporate governance
  • Develop and execute detailed work plan (including building an appropriately sized and skilled team) for addressing all identified gaps and achieving stand-alone public-company readiness
  • Oversee implementation of core efficiency software package (Microsoft Dynamics) to replace Quickbooks

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in accounting
  • Ideally a Certified Public Accountant in good standing
  • At least twelve years of professional work experience, including:
  • At least three years as Assistant Controller or Controller experience at a publicly traded company
  • At least five years of audit experience at a major accounting firm
