Background Information

CCDC19, also named as NESG1, is specifically expressed in human nasopharynx and trachea, and decreased or absent in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) tissues and cell lines. In addition, the levels of NESG1 protein are significantly greater in the low-grade NPC tissues than that in the high-grade NPC tissues. NESG1 also significantly regulats the expression of cell cycle regulators CCNA1 and p21. NESG1 may act as a tumor suppressor by inhibiting cell proliferation, invasion and migration of NPC cells.
