Background Information

HSD17B12 (17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 12) is an important protein belonging to the hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase family, which is mainly involved in the metabolism of steroids and fatty acids in the body. It has diverse functions in cells and is involved in various biochemical reactions, especially playing a key role in sex hormone synthesis and fatty acid elongation. HSD17B12 can convert estrone into estradiol in ovarian tissue. This enzyme is also involved in fatty acid elongation. HSD17B12 is expressed in a variety of tissues, especially in the brain tissue and the digestive system. In disease states, such as colorectal cancer (CRC), the expression level of HSD17B12 is significantly increased, suggesting that it may play a role in the occurrence and development of tumors.
