Background Information

BRUNOL5, also named CELF5, is a 485 amino acid protein, which belongs to the CELF/BRUNOL family. BRUNOL5 is expressed in the brain and localizes in the nucleus. BRUNOL5 is an RNA-binding protein implicated in the regulation of pre-mRNA alternative splicing and mediates exon inclusion and/or exclusion in pre-mRNA that are subject to tissue-specific and developmentally regulated alternative splicing. BRUNOL5 specifically activates exon 5 inclusion of cardiac isoforms of TNNT2 during heart remodeling at the juvenile to adult transition. BRUNOL5 exists in two isoforms with MV 52 and 45 kDa.
