Hintergrundinformationen
CDK5RAP2, also named as CEP215 and KIAA1633, belongs to the methylthiotransferase family and MiaB subfamily. This protein binds to p25NCK5A and therefore may be involved in neuronal differentiation. It may also be a substrate of neuronal CDC2-like kinase. CDK5RAP2 specifically inhibits CDK5 activation by CDK5R1. Defects in CDK5RAP2 are the cause of primary microcephaly autosomal recessive type 3 (MCPH3). Multiple isoforms generated through co- and/or posttranslational modifications or degradation may exist as scientists have described bands of 70, 90, 105, 200, and 230 kDa in mice depending on the age and organ investigated as well as the anti-Cdk5rap2 antibody applied or 210kd in total cell lysates of some human canser cell lines. (PUMID: 21327915, 20471352 and 18042621). The antibody is specific to CDK5RAP2.
