Background Information
TBK1 – TANK-binding kinase 1 is a regulator of the NFkB (NFkB p50 & NFkB p65) signaling pathway. NFkB signaling is controlled to a large extent by the sequestration of the NFkB complex in the cytoplasm by its association with one of the IkB family of proteins. IkB is phosphorylated by the IkB Kinase (IKK) complex, resulting in the degradation of IkB and the nuclear translocation of NFkB. TANK is an IkB family member that is specifically recognized and phosphorylated by TBK1, leading to the destruction of TANK and the activation of the NFkB pathway.
