  • Purity of recombinant human MCP-1 was determined by SDS- polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The protein was resolved in an SDS- polyacrylamide gel in reducing and non-reducing conditions and stained using Coomassie blue.

Background

Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), also known as CCL2, is a chemokine that regulates monocyte and macrophage migration and infiltration. In addition to monocytes and macrophages, MCP-1 can also serve as a chemoattractant for T cells, B cells, NK cells, dendritic cells, and neutrophils. MCP-1 expression is typically induced by the release of inflammatory cytokines and other stimuli from sites of tissue injury and infection. It in turn promotes the extravasation of immune cells across blood vessel walls and their subsequent infiltration of the infection site. It may also play a role in macrophage polarization as well as the differentiation of monocytes into dendritic cells, MSDCs, and osteoclasts. Increased MCP-1 expression has been linked to inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis, and multiple sclerosis.(PMID: 19441883, 31921102)
