Background Information

SNCAIP, also named as Synphilin-1 or Alpha-synuclein-interacting protein, is a 919 amino acid protein, which contains six ANK repeats. SNCAIP is detected in brain and is widely expressed, with highest levels in brain, heart and placenta. SNCAIP localizes in the cytoplasm and inhibits the ubiquitin ligase activity of SIAH1 and inhibits proteasomal degradation of target proteins. SNCAIP has an association with Parkinson disease.
