Background Information

Adenosine deaminase (ADA, EC 3.5.4.4), which has been found in plants, bacteria, and mammals including humans and others, catalyzes the hydrolysis of adenosine to yield inosine. It was demonstrated that ADA also catalyzes the hydrolysis of the derivatives of nucleoside adenosine such as 2′-deoxyadenosine. ADA is expressed on the surface of T and B cells and plays an important role in the development of immune system. (PMID: 26038697)
